A house on a pine hillside — four options
A sloping plot, exposed rock and pine forest set the terms. Four options were developed in parallel — the same functional layout, but differing in roof massing, the proportion of glass, and how the house meets the rock. The client chose between four concrete images rather than four written descriptions.
Options 1 and 2 follow a pitched double roof, with stacked stone running the full height and a large gable window. Options 3 and 4 move to a flat roof and a long veranda, pressing the house low against the slope. Each option comes with its own line studies — massing worked out before any render — and a material note agreed with the client before the technical set begins.
Inside, the living area keeps its double height: exposed steel trusses, a stone wall and fireplace at the core, and full-height glazing on three sides so the pine forest becomes the backdrop of the room.
